Douglas A-4 Skyhawk (2)

Matchbox A-4M

matchbox art

Don't laugh now.... but I like the Matchbox approach. Although not very well detailed, this model is not so bad although it has the famous  "deep trenches" of other kits and with some work can get you a nice model. And it's cheap by todays standards.

The A-4M as a later version of the Skyhawk has as most obvious visible detail the different style of canopy and this is provided in this kit.

The main undercarriage needs some refinement, you can do some work with rods and sprue. I also added the nose steering rod of sprue. Adding some details with sprue such as headrest ejector ring, pitots etcetera and some weathering, this model can look very nice. And the decals provided are excellent if you replace the star-and-bars with some correct style ones (such as from Microscale). .

I wanted to finish the A-4M in a very special scheme as given on Microscale set 72-227; it has markings for a Naval Weapons Evaluation Facility A-4M in Kirtland. The scheme is black and white mirrored on the left and right  and lower and upper sides.
