A-4E Blue Angel version
Esci gives us a rather nice kit with a reasonable cockpit. I also liked the instructions provided with some real aircraft pictures and the price is low by todays standards. A strange feature of this kit is that the fuselage has engraved panellines and the wings have (very fine) raised panellines. De vortex generators on top of the wing are a bit "too fine". The slats are secured and fixed in real Aggressor Skyhawks, so this kit can be made with the wing as provided. The same is true for the Blue Angels versions, probably to get a more predictive behaviour in demonstration flying in "non-normal" demo manoeuvres. I have not been able to finish this model yet, but the very nice decals look promising. For a Blue angels version, remove the small antenna under the nose. Microscale decalset nr 72-138 can also be used enabling also the Blue angels version to be made. Note: also Fujimi has a Blue angels kit in their series, but you thus don't need the provided separate slats....
ESCI A-4F Aggressor This kit is basically similar as the above discussed kit but has additional
parts provided: the avionics "hump" on top of the fuselage and extra canons.
A bit strange is that the hump is provided for Aggressor aircraft, which
to my knowledge often fly without them.
The kit is not yet finished, but I want to make typical US Key West planes; in "Detail and scale" I found some pictures on these U.S. Navy Adversary Aircraft. Unfortunately I could not find any colour references. To page (5)..
