Another hobby of mine is aviation painting. And obviously, I wanted to have some art on the Skyhawk. First, I had a useful background idea as I had a picture showing a hailstorm coming along... For the Skyhawk, I used the markings of the A-4 at the Smithsonian Institute at Washington D.C. It has markings carried by the A4 flown by Commander Fuller when shot down over Vietnam after which he spent six years as a POW. Making this painting gave a historic dimension to my A-4 project. Airshows Although living in The Netherlands, I had and have the chance to visit an airshow once in a while. On Dayton in the USA this TA-4 was seen....
The Pima air museum , near Tucson USA, is another nice place
to visit. This Skyhawk was found there; note the vortex generators on the
slats...
A long time ago, at the Paris Air Show Le Bourget (still being one of
the most famous and important industry shows today) I photographed this
Skyhawk. Date: 1963....
Last Skyhawk The last made Skyhawk was the nr 2960. Flug Revue, a German magazine had a nice article at that time, provided here as it is no longer available.
Standing in front of the last Skyhawk is its famous Douglas designer Ed Heinemann and "father" of the A-4 and of other very important Douglas planes in aviation history. I made an Italeri kit in this scheme.
