The A-36 was the ground attack / dive bomber version of the North American P-51 and the subtype was fitted with stronger wing, dive brakes and bomb racks. First flight was October 1942, flying earlier than the P-51 fighter. The A-36 saw action during the Second World War in North Africa and Mediterranean mid 1943 and also in the Far East / Birma from mid 1943.
This A-36A Apache with serial 42-83665 has a livery of the 522nd FBS with nick name "Margie H". It is on proud display at the USAF museum at Dayton, Ohio.
