Walkaround Douglas A-1 Skyraider (>5x)

The Douglas A-1 Skyraider (formerly AD-1) was an American single-seat attack aircraft that saw service between the late 1940s and at least in the 1980s. It has a Wright R-3350-26WA Cyclone engine with single propeller. The Skyraider had a remarkably long and successful career and was used from US Navy carriers as well as from land bases. It was operated by the United States Navy (USN), the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) and the United States Air Force (USAF), and also saw service with the British Royal Navy, the French Air Force, the Air Force of the Republic of Vietnam (VNAF), and others. It was a very rugged dependable aircraft that was huge carrying lots of stores and it was flown by a single pilot.

Some Skyraiders were also exported.

Numerous scale models exist of the Skyraider. In 1/32 scale there is a good but expensive A-1 Skyraider kit from Zoukei-Mura. Mid 2013 Trumpeter also issued a 1/32 Skyraider in 2 versions. In 1/72 scale, the Hasegawa kits are the best whereas Monogram/Revell has an old four seater 1/72 kit.
