The Antonov An-2 aircraft is a single-engine biplane utility/agricultural aircraft designed in the USSR in 1946. It got during the Cold War the NATO reporting name "Colt".

It was designed after the Second World War on request of the Soviet agriculture department as a large single engined biplane and also intended as a light utility transport. The aircraft is famous for its very small take-off field required and low stall speed due to its huge wings and very powerfull engine. It got an all-metal construction, a large cabin and still configured as a biplane with very rugged construction. The first prototype flew August 1947.  It has been in series production for over 45 years with probably over 18,000 planes manufactured also under license by Polish WSK and copied in China.

The AN-2 is also used for many other roles such as paradrop, agricultural work and many other tasks. It can fly from short, unimproved fields, and in extreme weather. antonov-2-profile

Many are still flying, also in private ownership in the most remote and common places.
