The Lockheed Neptune was developed as the P2V in the nineteen forties as naval patrol and anti-submarine aircraft. The US Forces were a large user, but also the Dutch Naval Air Service used various versions, like the P2V-5 and SP-2H. Fitted with two prop engines, often 2 additional pods with jets were fitted for dash speed capability. It carried a large crew.

Neptune P2V-7 (SP-2H) MLD (Dutch naval air service) 

This particular Neptune P2V-7 (SP-2H) with code "216" is preserved at the museum Traditiekamer De Kooij / Den Helder. It flew with the MLD from 1965-1980.

Neptune P2V-7 (SP-2H) MLD (Dutch naval air service) 

This Neptune SP-2H (P2V-7) coded 204 was operated the Royal Netherlands Naval Flying Service "Marineluchtvaartdienst" from end 1961 until mid 1982. It was modified with four 20mm guns in the nose and also flew for a while at Dutch Papua New Guinea.

P2V-7  AeroNavale

This P2V-7 Neptune has Bu.no148335 was used by the French Marine Nationale, probably Flotille 25F with code 335. This naval service used several versions of the Neptune. Restored and seen at Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace at Paris Le Bourget.

Kawasaki P-2J  

This P-2J  was license built by Kawasaki P2V-7 "kai" in Japan. It got T64 turboprop engines and 3-bladed propellers. Fuselage was extended 1,3 meters and the main gear has 2x2 wheels. It was also fitted with J3 booster jets. Some 83 were built from 1966-1979. This P-2J coded 4782 was flown by the JMSDF. It was seen at Aichi museum, Nagoya, Japan.

In 1/72 scale, the old FROG model is actually the only one. The same kit was later released also by Hasegawa as well as Revell. This model is one of the few plastic Neptune models available. 

A very rare vacuform in 1/48 was from Attic aircraft. 

Of the Kawasaki P-2J, Fujimi had a 1/144 kit. In 1/72 North Wing had a set to convert the Hasegawa P-2 kit (with extra parts; the set is now extremely rare).
